I think that it’s time for Indonesian tech startups to rise up and play an important role in ASEAN.”

Unardi hopes that the visit to Silicon Valley would encourage other startups in Indonesia to thrive and succeed. Furthermore he asserted, “I believe that Indonesia has a great potential to build a technology industry comparable to Silicon Valley. As can be seen, Traveloka and other startups have been moving at a positive direction, which proves that we are ready to compete. I think that the Indonesian tech industry may develop very well because we have a lot of highly talented and passionate young people to reform the nation through technology.”

Previously, Rudiantara has also stated that he wanted to create 1,000 technopreneurs by the end of 2020 and to establish Indonesia as the largest digital economy in Southeast Asia. It is predicted that the total value of e-commerce transactions in Indonesia will grow to USD 130 billion in 2020.
