Worry Less Holiday, Traveloka Introducing “Home Protection during Lebaran Festive Holiday Insurance Product”

Jakarta, 24 May 2019 - Traveloka, a leading technology company that provides online travel and lifestyle products for domestic and international destinations, officially announced its newest innovation, the Home Protection Insurance during Lebaran Festive Holiday, a service that allows users to still feel secure while they’re away on vacation. Each year, most Indonesians are in full preparation for ‘mudik’, a tradition where they go back to their hometowns and spend time with their loved ones. Based on a survey conducted by Traveloka on consumer behavior during Ramadan, there are 7 out of 10 people who are planning to take the long-awaited trip to their hometowns.

According to last year's Kompas R&D data, it is estimated that at least 8 million people in Jakarta and surrounding areas (Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi) will plan to go on a ‘mudik’ trip, thus leaving their homes for several days. Not only are their houses unoccupied, but the general, quieter surroundings in residential areas also often triggers other people to commit crime.

Results from a Kompas R&D survey conducted by phone shows that there are approximately 182 Jakarta residents who plan a ‘mudik’ trip. . Even though most respondents believed and felt that their home environment was safe from crime, there were more than half (68.7 percent) of respondents who claimed to be worried about leaving their homes and valuables. Generally, they leave their homes for two to seven days.

According to the Metro Jaya Regional Police report, crime rates rose during last year's Eid-al Fitr holiday. The results of the Metro Jaya Regional Police evaluation conducted 15 days prior to and 15 days during the fasting month of last year showed that the crime rate in DKI Jakarta increased by 19 percent. There are five types of crime that people need to be aware of, which are bank customer robberies, bank robberies, gold shop robberies, anesthesia, and theft in empty homes.

Regarding the survey results showing the high number of Indonesians who plan on going back to their hometowns, Traveloka aims to provide security and comfort for its users by introducing Home Protection Insurance during the Eid-al Fitr holidays.

Yady Guitana, Head of Global Partnership Traveloka said, "Traveloka is committed to accommodate our users’ needs, especially during the holy month of Ramadan and Eid-al Fitr holidays, where families usually go on a ‘mudik’ trip to visit and spend time with their relatives. We often feel unsafe during our trip, because of ongoing worries with what might happen to our unoccupied house. For that reason, Traveloka not only provides the comfort while traveling, but also aims to provide a sense of security for its users by launching this Home Protection Insurance just in time for the ‘mudik’ season," explained Yady.

" Traveloka’s Home Protection Insurance, first of its kind in Indonesia, is expected to reduce, or even eliminate, our users’ sense of worry and anxiety, so that they can fully enjoy the moment of togetherness with their loved ones during the holidays," Yady continued.
